In Abu Dhabi, a major initiative is underway to establish vertiports that will support the growing demand for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and autonomous aerial logistics. After evaluating 14 potential sites, a thorough feasibility study was submitted to the Abu Dhabi government with input from over 34 stakeholders.
In partnership with Skyports Infrastructure, LODD, a local provider specializing in AI-powered drone technology and autonomous logistics, has selected three key locations in Abu Dhabi for the development of these vertiports: Al Bateen, Yas Island, and Khalifa Port. The goal is to enhance both passenger and cargo transportation, significantly boosting logistical efficiency within the UAE capital.
This selection follows an in-depth analysis of airspace, regulatory requirements, and operational feasibility. The designs for these vertiports were revealed during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2025, showcasing Abu Dhabi's commitment to pioneering advanced aerial transport infrastructure.
Meanwhile, in Dubai, Skyports has already begun construction on the world’s first permanent commercial vertiport near Dubai International Airport (DXB). This will be the first of four vertiports planned for Dubai, with air taxi services set to launch in partnership with Joby Aviation by the first quarter of 2026.
